SUMMARY:Bringing Nature Home\: The Case for Native Plants
DESCRIPTION:"With spring just around the corner\, the Howard County\n
Conservancy will host a lecture by Doug Tallamy on the\n benefits of p
lanting native species in our gardens on\n Thursday\, March 12\, 7\:0
0 p.m. The nationally acclaimed\n author of BRINGING NATURE HOME\, Dr
. Tallamy chairs the\n Department of Entomology & Wildlife Ecology at
the\n University of Delaware.\n \n Dr. Tallamy will present an illustr
ated talk about the\n critical role that native plants play in support
ing a\n variety of beneficial insects which in turn feed a diversity\n
of birds. Tallamy makes the case that 'With as many as\n 33\,000 spe
cies imperiled in the U.S.\, it is clear that we must change our appro
ach to landscaping if we hope to create\n homes and food to improve ou
r local biodiversity.'\n \n His lecture will offer gardeners practical
advice on how\n they can make a significant contribution toward susta
inable\n biodiversity and at the same time beautify the suburban\n lan
dscape with native plants. A book signing will follow the\n talk."
